What We Believe
Ecclesia Has Adopted The Second London Baptist Confession Of Faith (1689) as our Church's Statement Of Faith. We Also Agree With The Baptist Faith And Message (2000).
Confessional Summary - Second London Baptist Confession of Faith (1689)
ESSENTIAL DOCTRINE (CH. 1–6)
God’s Word (Ch. 1): The sixty-six books of the Bible were breathed out by God, possess his authority, and are sufficient for revealing God’s will for salvation and faithful living.
God’s Nature (Chs 2-3): God the Holy Trinity is the Almighty Creator who decreed all things by his perfect wisdom and for his glory.
God’s Works (Chs. 4–6): Our once-perfect but now sin-cursed world and everything in it was created by God who guides and sustains everything by his wisdom and power.
EVANGELICAL DOCTRINE (CH. 7–20)
God’s Covenant of Grace (Ch. 7): Though man is under God’s curse for sin, God was pleased to make a covenant of grace by which his appointed Mediator would save and bless sinners.
The Mediator of God’s Covenant (Ch. 8): God appointed his own eternally begotten Son to unite his divine nature with a human nature in the man, Jesus, to mediate the blessings of the covenant of grace to God’s people as their ultimate Prophet, Priest, and King.
The Context for God’s Covenant (Ch. 9): Though sin did not eliminate man’s free will, it so corrupted his will that man cannot freely choose any spiritual good unless God, by his covenant of grace, converts and transforms them.
The Blessings of God’s Covenant (Chs. 10–13): When God graciously converts a sinner, he calls them, forgives all their sins and judges them righteous, adopts them into his family as beloved sons and daughters, and transforms them into the image of Jesus Christ.
The Benefits of God’s Covenant (Chs. 14–18): Sinners who are brought by God’s grace to repent and believe in Jesus Christ, may also be assured of their salvation by persevering in faith and good works.
The Means of Receiving God’s Covenant (Chs. 19–20): The primary means used to convict and convert sinners, and guide Christians in free and faithful living, is God’s law and gospel, rightly distinguished.
ECCLESIASTICAL DOCTRINE (CH. 21–30)
Christian Liberty Defined (Ch. 21): In Christ, God freed Christians from the penalty and power of sin, and he alone, by his Word, has authority to bind the conscience on matters of faith and obedience.
Christian Liberty Applied (Ch. 22–30): God’s Word alone defines how Christians are to relate to God in worship, to the magistrate and marriage, and to fellow believers in the local church.
ESCHATOLOGICAL DOCTRINE (CH. 31–32):
At the end of history, God will judge both the living and the dead, punishing the wicked to the glory of his justice, and glorifying his elect to the glory of his grace.
